1 INTRODUCTION

The rider representing the MESF undertakes to respect and to be bound by the following Rules which have been Adopted by the MESF on 18th January, 2005.

1. All Participants, by their application for a licence or acceptance of appointment to the MESF, agrees to be bound by the MESF Memorandum and Articles of Association and all rules, regulations and bye-laws made thereunder and has agreed that the decisions of the Board, Stewards and other competent authorities of the MESF given in accordance therewith shall be binding upon them.
2. It is the responsibility of all Participants to ensure that they are aware of and familiar with the Rules, and all Participants competing under these Rules shall be deemed to have knowledge of these Rules as amended from time to time.
3. The Participant is not to contravene any rule set by his Society or Club, the MESF, the Ministry of Youth & Sports Sports Act or other.

2 SHOW JUMPING RULES

2.1 Obstacle Rules

2.2 Accepted Horses

Horses shall be accepted for participation as follows:

Junior:	Horses from E & D
Espoir:	Horses from E, D & C
Vétéran:	Open

2.3 Dress Code

Benjamin - Cadet:	Jodphurs, white polo
Junior - Vétéran:	White jodphurs, white shirt or polo
Espoir:	White jodphurs, white shirt with tie or high neck blouse
Chevaux E-D-C-B-A:	White jodphurs, white shirt with tie or high neck blouse, jacket

Note: For girls, jodphurs be cream coloured. Blouse is with tie or collar.

2.4 Changing of Categories

1. Going down a category: Write a letter to the Secretary of the Federation with the reasons explained in full (ie change in rider, problems with the horse, elimination in more than 3 consecutive competitions)
2. Going up a category: Once a horse has gained more than a total of 150 points, the horse must go up a category.
   If the MESF has requested that a horse goes up a category, said horse will maintain the average of its points for the following competition as opposed to points for absence.

2.5 Annual Categorising

1. Poney Champion: All 4 competitions will be counted.
   Absence: the points of the maximum number of participants during the year plus 10.
2. Horse Champion: The total of the 5 best performances during the year out of the 6 competitions.
   Absence: the maximum number of participants during the year plus 10.

3 CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINE

3.1 General Conduct & Discipline

No Participant shall:

1. Conduct himself at an Event in a manner which is offensive to the public.
2. Argue at an Event with an Official or use abusive or threatening language or behave with incivility or contempt towards an Official.
3. Ill-treat in any way a horse at an Event whether inside or outside the competition area.
4. Misuse or use excessively a whip or spur.
5. Deliberately use the action of the bit as a means of punishment and/or misuse any item of saddlery in a manner likely to cause pain or discomfort to the horse or pony.
6. Allow a horse in the collecting ring or anywhere on or in the vicinity of the Event to:
   1. Be rapped
   2. Jump a pole or obstacle which is held by hand
   3. Jump an oxer which has the back element lower than the top pole of the front element
   4. Jump a fence in the wrong direction.
7. Allow, knowingly or otherwise, a horse for which he is the person responsible to compete in any competition under the influence of a forbidden substance which includes both alcohol as well as chemical substances. The person responsible shall be in breach of this rule if the analysis of a sample taken from the said horse shows the presence in its body fluids of any substance, which is a forbidden substance.
8. Unreasonably refuse to allow a horse which has competed or is about to compete in a competition at an Event to undergo any properly authorised test or examination if requested to do so by an officer of the Testing Authorities or the Organising Committee.
9. Refuse to give a sample of his or her body fluids for the purpose of control of forbidden substances.
10. Conduct himself in such a manner that he has or may have committed or has or may have been party or privy to any breach of any provisions of the Memorandum and Articles of the MESF or of any rule, regulation or bye-law of the MESF or Sports Act 2001. A Participant shall be in breach of this Rule in the Event that any person who assists, represents or acts on behalf of or in the employment of such Participant during the course of an Event conducts himself in such a manner that were he a Participant of the MESF he would himself be in breach of any of the provisions of these rules.
11. Conduct himself in a manner which is detrimental to the character and/or prejudicial to the interests of the MESF.
12. Unreasonably fail or refuse to assist the Stewards, officers or Board Members of the MESF in their investigations of complaints of misconduct by members of the Federation.
13. Make, either orally or in writing, to an officer of the MESF, a statement on any matter covered by the rules, which he does not or could not reasonably believe to be true.
14. Compete and/or transport horses to an Event without a valid MESF passport, travel documents and licence to compete.
15. Compete at an Event for which the horse and rider are not fully qualified or eligible.
16. Having indicated his availability for selection for an Official Mauritius national team, unreasonably fail or refuse to compete in such team if selected.
17. Exercise any of the rights or privileges of participation in the MESF while suspended from the MESF, nor assist represent or act on behalf of any other member of the MESF's members at an Event staged under the rules of the MESF or any foreign national federation while suspended from all rights and privileges of participation.
